Rahul attacks Maya, says UP not developing

Phulpur: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday kickstarted his party's campaign for the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections addressing a rally from Phulpur, the constituency which voted Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Lok Sabha.
He blew the bugle for the elections with rhetoric against state Chief Minister Mayawati on the birth anniversary of Pandit Nehru.
The Gandhi scion launched a tirade against the UP CM, playing the poor and the non-development card, citing the atrocities carried out on the agitating farmers of Bhatta Parsaul.
"In Bhatta Parsaul, farmers were being killed, land was taken away from them and women were being attacked. Who will answer for this?" he questioned.
Rahul lashed out at Mayawati also for the misuse of Central funds and the overall state of corruption that had seeped in into the state.
"We sent crores of rupees, but it disappeared. It went into making calendars and post cards. Workers weren't given jobs, machines. Who benefited? The BSP," he pointed.
He further said, "People could not eat, there was unemployment. The Centre gave MNREGA."
Invoking the spirit of change, the Congress general secretary said that it was time for Uttar Pradesh to welcome change, adding that he was ready to take the battle to Lucknow, the seatbed of power in UP.

Non-political people cannot bring change of rule: Sushma

Jaipur, Nov 10 (PTI) Apparently having Anna Hazare in mind, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today said that non-political people can lead movements but cannot bring a change of rule. "There was a discussion that it seemed that everything was moving towards non-political organisations. Non-political people can lead movements but they cannot bring a change of rule (satta parivartan). Because for this, the alternative will have to be searched from within active politics," she told a Jan Chetna Yatra rally here. She, however, did not name Hazare. "People have begun losing faith in politics and politicians who face people's mistrust. There is need for a person whose reputation is spotless and who has earned trust through his behaviour. I thank Advaniji for undertaking the yatra," she said. Swaraj also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issues of corruption and price rise. "A person who is leading a corrupt government cannot claim to be honest. If you are an economist then why don't you hear the voices against inflation," she asked. In his speech, Advani said, "The public is indeed troubled by corruption. But if there is a strong emotion towards devotion to Ram then there is a strong emotion for the rashtra also. And it is in the interest of the rashtra that the governance should be clean and corruption free."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's delivery provokes nurses' strike

It's probably a few days more for the Bachchan baby's introduction to the nation, but people taking advantages in the name of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's pregnancy and delivery are unending. Taking advantage of the fact that Aishwarya Rai will deliver in the mid of this month, the nurses of Seven Hills Hospital took an u-turn with their high demand.

They went on a flash strike on November 9 for three hours, forcing the management for a salary hike. The nurses went on the flash strike from 2 pm that day. “The management had promised us a 15% hike after we joined. But so far they have only given us 3% hike. We have been demanding that they fulfil their promises but so far nothing has happened. We, therefore, decided to go on a flash strike,” said a nurse told DNA.

On the other hand, the hospital management escaped media from giving any information on the strike.

Biggest crisis: Kingfisher hits air pocket

After oil companies and airports, rivals have stepped up pressure on Kingfisher Airlines (KFA).

Jet Airways, the leader in market share, has stopped accepting passengers from KFA in case of a cancellation or disruption over a payment dispute.

KFA, facing acute cash crunch and mounting losses, has cancelled nearly 30 flights across its network for the next 10 days.
Officials said the airline took the decision since KFA had not cleared Rs 20 crore (Rs 200 million) in dues related to passenger transfers.

Typically, a carrier whose flight is disrupted issues a 'flight interruption manifest' on the basis of which the other airline issues tickets. The bill settlement between the two is made through the International Air Transport Association's clearing house at Geneva in 30 days.
Full-service carriers, which are members of IATA, sign prorate agreements to determine revenue sharing. These have a clause allowing airlines to transfer passengers to other carriers at a pre-determined rate in case of cancellations or disruptions.

"It (KFA) owes us close to Rs 20 crore. We stopped accepting their passengers," said a Jet official, who did not wish to be named. Jet Airways spokesperson did not respond to an email query.KFA said, "The company has reduced frequency of some of its flights, predominantly over weekends or on some routes where there has been slow demand. For a limited period, these flights are either being cancelled or clubbed with other KFA flights in a well-controlled pre-determined manner."

"These steps have been taken in a planned manner and in close coordination with our travel partners and guest relations teams to avoid any inconvenience that may be caused to our guests," KFA said.

    Next
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has taken cognizance of the sudden cancellations and issued a notice to Kingfisher under Rule 140 (a) of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, for not taking prior approval before cancelling flights, as is required by the rule.
It also asked the airline what steps it had taken so far to take care of the passengers of the flights cancelled in terms of returning their fares, accommodating in alternative flights or providing modes of transportation.

Mbalula denies ‘honey trap‘ allegation

Only time would tell if state security agencies were involved in a plot against Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, he wrote in a letter published by The New Age newspaper on Wednesday.

“Should there be any suggestion or confirmation of any form of political orchestration or related malice, only time will tell; and such political ramifications will be dealt with appropriately at that time,” wrote Mbalula.

“For my part, I am certain that history will absolve me. I distance myself from any insinuation that I alleged that the NIA [National Intelligence Agency] operatives are meddling in ANC squabbles.

“It is without a doubt that the political environment within which we operate at this stage is afflicted by mischievous characters for their own political and personal ends, and diverting the attention of the organisation to execute its strategic mandate.”

Mbalula was responding to a front-page report in The New Age on Tuesday, in which he said a woman claiming to be pregnant with his child was paid by intelligence agencies to rubbish his name.

He told the newspaper that the woman, who has since been identified by various newspapers as 25-year-old Joyce Molamu, was paid R150 000 by national intelligence operatives, who were meddling in the African National Congress's squabbles in the run up to next year's elective conference in Mangaung.

“State institutions must not be used to fight political wars. It must stop now,” he was quoted as saying.

He describe the political environment within the ANC as “really a poisoned one”.

Mbalula, who has major backing within the ANC Youth League, which wants him to replace Gwede Mantashe as ANC secretary general, said in the Tuesday report that the atmosphere within the ruling party had become “polluted”.

Last weekend, Molamu claimed she fell pregnant when she and Mbalula had unprotected sex after meeting at a party.

Mbalula has since denied that he and Molamu had unprotected sex and claimed he used a condom, but it burst. He denied that Molamu was pregnant and said she was a “serial extortionist”.

In an interview published in City Press on Sunday, Joyce Molamu said she met Mbalula at a party and they had a “two night stand”.

She fell pregnant and they discussed money for her to have an abortion.

She eventually wanted R40 000 to cover her expenses while she took a few months off to heal. - Sapa

Bipasha’s status update: I lust for Brad Pitt…but,........ love to be shah rukh khan

Ever since her split from Bollywood hunk John Abraham, actress Bipasha Basu has become daringly candid and open. In this quick-fire interview, she updates her status on various issues…

On her weakness

I lose my temper very easily. Though I try to control, but it is all in vain. As time is passing by, I am improving bit by bit.

On her favourite movie

‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ is my all-time favourite film.

On being a man for a day

If I were to be a man for a day, I would love to become none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Being a man, you can get set and put on your clothes in no time, in short you get ready faster than a woman. You are an entertainer, smart, intelligent and the world swoons over you. You know what you are doing; you are simply great at your work. It’s great to be Shah Rukh Khan.

On not being an actress

If not an actress then I would turn to fitness and become a fitness freak. I would run fitness workshops.

I like to keep myself healthy and also love to preach about being healthy to others.

On lust

I lust only for Brad Pitt.
